Association 2023 logistics
August 19, 2023
Dear Friends,
We are looking forward to being together, either in person or via Zoom, for our Association
meeting on Saturday, October 7th. You have received a letter from Bruce detailing his
inspiration as well as initial readings for this year’s meeting. (If you did not receive this email,
please contact Ann Matthiesen, via cellphone (973) 876-9042 or via email
ann.matthiesen@icloud.com.)
Logistics
The meeting will be held at Sixth Church, Portland. Please use the entrance on the south side
of the edifice, at 915 SW Columbia Street. Also, please plan on arriving well before 9AM to
ensure you have time to check in and be settled before the meeting begins. Those
attending by Zoom should plan on connecting 20-25 minutes prior to the meeting.
Our meeting will begin at 9AM and be completed at approximately 5PM, PDT. There will be a
break for lunch a few minutes after noon, and the members’ business meeting will convene at
1:30PM. Members attending via Zoom, will be able to participate.
Travel Assistance
Financial aid is available to members who need assistance to attend Association. Contact
Bruce (bruce@fitzwater.com or (503) 223-4303) about that assistance.
We are happy to arrange transportation for anyone who needs a ride to the church from the
greater Portland area. Please contact Executive Committee member Sue Humble ((720) 346-
2364 or humbles@aol.com) as soon as possible to be added to the list of those desiring
transportation.
Parking
If you will be driving to the meeting, there will be free parking spaces in the lot which is on the
south side of SW Columbia Street, just east of SW 10th Ave. This is the lot across the street
from the entrance to the church. If you need to pay to park in an adjacent lot, the Association
will reimburse you. Please do not pay to park on the street, as there is no all-day street
parking.
RSVP
It is important that we know who will be on Zoom and who will be attending in person. If you
are attending in person, and are bringing your children or grandchildren, please let us
know as soon as possible. We will care for infants in the church’s children’s room and
arrange a fun day of activities for older children. We kindly ask that you let our
Secretary/Treasurer Ann Matthiesen know your plan no later than October 1st. Ann is also the
person to contact if you have any questions about details not covered by this letter.
More information about Zoom access and procedures will be emailed as we get closer to the
date of the meeting. You will also, as usual, receive a PDF of the essential text prior to the meeting. We appreciate your prayers that support harmonious connectivity. We also
recommend, as we did last year, that you set aside the time for the Zoom Association meeting
to be as consecrated as you would if you were attending in person. (If you need a printed copy
of the talk, please let Ann Matthiesen know by October 1st.)
Lunch
We will be providing a complimentary lunch, consisting of several choices (e.g., sandwich,
chips, and fruit), for those who would prefer to stay at the church and eat. Contact Executive
Committee member Heidi Caswell Zander ((978) 869-0474 or artatlantic@aol.com), to request
a lunch, no later than Oct. 1st.
Dues/Donations
Thirty-five years ago, when Bruce composed the Association By-Laws, the dues were set at
$50. Dues are an important way members support the activity of the Association. There is no
record of who has and has not paid dues, and Bruce trusts and appreciates each member to
pay what he or she is comfortable sharing. However, it is fair to say, $50 does not go as far
today as it did in 1987—in today’s dollars, it would be over $100.
We ask that you send your dues directly to our Secretary/Treasurer, as this will simplify the
accounting process on October 7th. Make checks payable to: Bruce Fitzwater Association and
mail them to: Ann Matthiesen 1775 York Avenue #33G, NY, NY 10128. For those who prefer
digital payments, Venmo continues to be an option. You can find the Association as
@Fitzwater-Association on Venmo.
If we can be of help to you, please don’t hesitate to call on one of us. We are here to support
one another throughout the year, in addition to working together to make our Association
meeting a rich and inspiring time for all.
We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing,
To sing of God’s goodness as year turns to year.
We gather professing Your grace and Your blessing,
With thanks for the gospel that gathers us here.
